About this deal

The events of this novel, of a Starfleet vice admiral trying to start a military coup of the Federation, are similar to a later DS9 storyline in " Homefront" and " Paradise Lost". Even more similar is the plot of Star Trek Into Darkness, which also features a Dreadnought-class starship as part of the coup. Character Title: Dreadnought is named after the hero that gives Danny her powers, whose role Danny takes on. A battleship is a floating platform for naval guns designed to destroy enemy ships. Assuming equal marksmanship on both sides, the ship with the larger number of guns, firing heavier shells at longer range, will prevail. Speed is also a factor, giving a captain the power to choose the moment of action – whether to pursue or withdraw. In battle in mid-ocean, where an enemy ship cannot flee to a friendly harbor and where there is no hiding place other than in rain clouds, fog, or darkness, destruction of the slower, weaker vessel is almost inevitable. Range is important because a ship which can fire and score hits out of range of the guns of her enemy is fighting a helpless foe. Range, size of the guns, and destructive power go hand in hand; the larger the shell, the greater the range, and the heavier its penetrating and blast effect. When she was designed and built, the Dreadnought was the supreme embodiment of these concepts…” For those familiar with the facts of European diplomacy and defence in the period ca. 1890-1914, Massie will bring them to life with love.

Another unique design feature was the inclusion of a holographic camouflage system, ironically originally designed by Sarda. Are You Sure You Want to Do That?: The Artificer states very clearly that for two teenagers to go after a supervillain that killed Dreadnought seems like an incredibly bad idea. In my estimations this is one of the best naval books written about this crucial period. It is also a key read for any one interested in under standing the gradual march to war in 1914 and the impending tragedies that soon followed.

Author Diane Carey made extensive use of the Star Fleet Technical Manual when writing this novel. Besides the use of the titular three- nacelled Dreadnought-type ship, the organization of the Federation and Starfleet infrastructure revealed to Piper by the library computer is identical to the layout written by Franz Joseph in that manual. She also mentions several Federation starships and starship classes from that work, such as the Saladin-class of destroyer. Even major characters Piper, "Scanner" Sandage, Vaughan Rittenhouse, Sukaru Tutakai, and Sarda were named for Ptolemy-class transport/ tugs USS Piper, USS Sandage, USS Rittenhouse, and the Constitution-variant subclass vessels USS Tutakai and (probably) USS Sardar. Carey also misspells Potemkin as Potempkin, as Franz Joseph did in the earlier manual. When the Adeptus Astartes fight, they employ a set of combat doctrines to eliminate the enemy. After pounding the foe with heavy weapons, warriors advance to lay down a hail of bolter fire before charging forth with chainswords roaring to finish the foe.If every unit from your army has the ADEPTUS ASTARTES keyword (excluding AGENT OF THE IMPERIUM and UNALIGNED units), this unit gains a bonus (see below) depending on which Combat Doctrine is active for your army. During the first battle round, the Devastator Doctrine is active for your army. From the second battle round onwards, at the start of the battle round, you can change which Combat Doctrine is active for your army, as follows: If the Tactical Doctrine was active for your army during the previous battle round, you can change it so that the Assault Doctrine is now active.

I Just Want to Be Special: Gerald, one of Utopia's minions, is this. He feels like his life is going nowhere and is willing to work for a supervillain that promises him powers. Home Base: Legion tower, a skyscraper in downtown New Port City, is where the Legion Pacifica resides.Barbara Tuchman's brilliant descriptions of naval warfare in The First Salute piqued my interest in the subject. In my readings on WWI, I was especially interested in the Battle of Jutland. I read and loved Massie's trilogy on the Romanovs, so despite the fact that this would be my 900th book on WWI, I decided to delve into this.
