About this deal

If you enjoy psychological thrillers about people with secrets, I recommend you check out Winstead’s debut novel. Jessica Miller is the main character in the story and she can’t wait to show her old crew, the East House Seven, how far she’s come since their college days.

Told in racing dual timelines, with a dark campus setting and a darker look at friendship, love, obsession, and ambition, In My Dreams I Hold A Knife is an addictive read you won’t be able to put down. I’ve been so excited about this book for weeks now—next to For Your Own Good by Samantha Downing (another absolute must-read) it might have been my most anticipated thriller of the year. The protagonist and narrator, Jessica Miller, came across as narcissistic, ruthless in her ambitions, unstable, and always striving to be 'the best'. I did find it a little slow to start, but by about the third chapter the pacing picked up and I was well and truly hooked. Over the course of a single shocking night, Ashley Winstead peels back lie after lie, exposing the poisoned roots of ambition, friendship, and belonging itself.

Newsflash: In My Dreams I Hold a Knife is one of the best, most addicting thrillers I’ve read all year! I found all of the characters in this book very unlikable, however, this didn’t stop me from rapidly reading the story, suspecting everyone of being guilty at one point or another. If you liked Marisha Pessl's Neverworld Wake or Laurie Elizabeth Flynn's The Girls Are All So Nice Here, trust me—you will love this.

Now she is an Upper East Side girl named partner at one of the most sought after positions at a consulting company in NYC. It was impossible to put down and I thoroughly enjoyed the dual timelines and different points of view. Twisty and compulsively readable, In My Dreams I Hold a Knife will have you turning pages late into the night, not just to figure out who murdered beloved Heather Shelby, but to see whether friendships forged under fire can ever be resurrected again. I’m so honored to be able to reveal the cover for Vanessa Lillie’s buzz-worthy new mystery here on CBTB today! But near the end of senior year one of them was murdered and another was accused, and things were never quite the same between them. This, of course, is not inherently a negative, and the care with which the author builds her story’s universe pays off as the book progresses.
